Trip Overview

This trek covers the lower section of the Dolpa taking in Phosundo but not Shey Gompa, there are several high and remote passes to cross making this a serious undertaking. A totally unique experience of the Bon Culture within the setting of a barren landscape, often devoid of human presence. However there is a good chance to see Blue Sheep, living alongside the Blue Sheep is the Snow Leopard, but it will be a very special day if you manage to see them!

This Trek is one of the most exciting and challenging treks in Nepal and allows the trekkers to experience the real adventures of trekking on an off-the-wall trail among steep hills and a rich cultural environment, including Shey Phoksundo Lake and the pre-Buddhism Bon Po culture.

Numa La Pass 5309m, the highest point of the trek, and Baga La Pass 5169m offer extraordinary views of Dhaulagiri 8167m and the Tibetan ranges, Kugung La and Khyung La. During summer, caravans of yaks and sheep head towards their destination, usually the market towns deeper within Nepal. The pristine turquoise Phoksundo Lake, located between hills that rise 2000m above the Lake. The Dolpo region is populated by Tibetan and Magar people who still practice the pre-Buddhist Bon Po religion.
